The Dance Video Place is a media streaming service, specialise in “how to dance” videos, lessons and tutorials.
After we encrypt and secure your videos, we stream them to paying customers.
From this, we take a commission, and send you the rest.
We “sell” on “commission only”. We have a BIG incentive to market your videos effectively!
There are 2 income streams –
Outright Purchase:
Say a customer wants to create their own “dance library” and opts to “purchase” your video – this is a “one time” transaction. Think along the lines of a DVD purchase.
The User gets a 10 year licence to watch the video online as often as they like, we get our percentage, and the bulk of the purchase price is yours.
Subscriptions:
Our system logs EVERY customer interaction.
Exactly what video they watch, and how log they watch it, is logged as “minutes watched”.
These “minutes watched” are totalled up for all videos on site. As an example only, lets say in an average month, all together, Users watched 20,000 minutes of video.
From this data our system calculates what percentage each and every video on site has been viewed.
Example (1) –
Let’s also say for this month, after TDVP takes our commission, there is $10,000 in the “subscription pool”.
If all your videos combined are watched for a total of 3,000 minutes, which is 15% of the TOTAL “minutes watched”, then your share of the subscription pool is 15% of $10,000, that is $1,500.
Example (2) –
Likewise, if your video was watched for only 4 minutes total ( or 0.02%), then that month you’d get $2 as your share.
Example (3) –
Say only one User watches your 60 minute video package (think DVD) ONCE ( or 0.03% of the total), that would be a payment of $30.00 to you.
The more popular videos will get more return, only naturally. You get this, right?
It’s important to note that there are checks in place to detect and prevent fraudulent “video views”.
The “minutes watched” and “subscription pool” figures used herein are for example purposes only, and may not reflect actual figures.
Let’s be really clear here – we NEVER get the Copyright of your media – that stays with you always.
Instead, what you grant TDVP is a revocable, limited Licence, to format and present your media via the Web. You decide for how long we can stream your media.
Full disclosure:
There are two (2) stipulations that we have to make.
Firstly, you must give us 30 days notice if you intend to withdraw the Licence. This is because someone may have taken out a subscription specifically to view your lessons – it would be unfair and just plain wrong to delete your lessons without a “heads up”. In our Service Agreement we need to give 30 days notice when some material is being removed. On your media will be a notice “leaving on such and such a date”.
And secondly, if a customer has “purchased” a full licence for your media, then they get to watch it forever, right? We WILL remove your media from the main video library so no further subscriptions or purchases are made, but the customer’s right to their purchase must be honoured.
Your video is stored on our CDN servers in an encrypted format, and streamed out in another format, then decrypted at the users end. Even the location of the file is encrypted.
If someone has enough time, and the sophisticated equipment, any encryption can be overcome.
But consider, anyone with the resources to break our encryption is probably hacking some bank or government department.
We’re not protecting launch codes here, right?
Even so, all video are visually and electronically “watermarked”, and flag up if appearing on social media sites.
Ever noticed how similar “brick and mortar” businesses tend to setup near each other?
Look at food courts in shopping malls.
Each store COULD be randomly scattered throughout the mall, but they’re not. Why? Because many customers are “hungry”, but not sure for what.
Sometimes they know exactly what they want, sometimes they’ll change there minds when tempted by something they see. Importantly though, they KNOW if they go to the food hall or court, they’ll get SOMETHING they want.
Marketing with similar products is just like that. Customers come to a central location (The Dance Video Place) for a product, and then might start to browse for a particular dance style or teacher, or maybe see something that piques their interest and try something completely different?
The point is, potential customers come to TDVP to find dance lesson videos because they know that’s what we do. Once here they might just see your products (over and over and . . . .).
Content Distribution Networks – CDNs – are are specifically designed to handle the large files associated with video.
CDNs also go a long way to prevent that annoying “buffering circle” while the media is located. Rather than having your video on just one “local” server, TDVP places your files on multiple servers on multiple continents, including Europe, USA, Asia and Australia. Which ever server is “closer”, it serves your files to the customer.
If that server is already working hard, has delays or is off-line, then the next closest server “kicks in” and serves your files.
This all means that customers get your files promptly, without buffering or stuttering.
Streaming is a fast way to access internet media content.
The content is delivered (streamed) to your device quickly, but it isn’t stored there.
It’s a bit like TV – you watch something, but not record it. When you’re done watching, there’s no copy left on your device.
On the other hand, downloading means the entire (video) file is copied onto the device before it starts playing – that’s just giving away a copy of your hard work.
ALL payments on TDVP are managed by PayPal and/or Stripe. No financial details are stored on our servers.
Every time a video is viewed we log the User account, their IP address, date, time on-site, what they watched (to the second) and log-out time.
The ONLY data we actually keep is the User Name, email, and site password, and even this data is stored on an encrypted server.
You certainly can, but here are a few truths – but don’t just believe us, check out these things for your self –
Vimeo:
A minimum of $180 a year to set up your videos with any form of security and privacy. Or if using the Vimeo OTT service pay $1 per month for every subscriber = so if you have say 300 subscribers, you’ll pay $300 per month for them. And 10% off the top for one time purchases.
YouTube:
Before you can get your videos “monetised”, you’ll need 1,000 subscribers, PLUS your videos have been viewed for 4,000 hours in the past 12 months – the rate is about $2-$6 per thousand views after this threshold.
Also, consider just how many video contributors are relying on paid advertising (underwear, supplements!) within the video, using Patreon (or similar) fan sites. If the monetisation is reasonable, why are content providers also selling nappies?
Then there is the piracy and copying issues.
We use YouTube and Vimeo for promo videos only.
The Dance Video Place
Yes, we do the all the marketing, including:
Additionally, on the site we have a “Free Weekly Dance Lesson”, presented by a Content Provider (like you?) as a “teaser” of their videos. Who doesn’t like a good freebie? (participation in this program is absolutely voluntary).
Absolutely not. Show them wherever you want. Sell videos via your own website and TDVP – your choice.
Just a point though, it’s counter productive to post a video to a free downlaoding site, and then try and charge for it somewhere else, just saying
The Dance Video Place (TDVP) is NOT associated in any way shape or form with ANY other Streaming service(s).
When we mention other such excellent services as Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ etc, we do so to properly describe the manner and style of what TDVP is, and what it does. We do not suggest nor imply any connection between us and these other Services.
